Extremely stupid, complicated, hopeless, and cold

Mean old ladies

Currently listening to: Nothing

Do we get more irritable as we get older? More short-tempered? More eccentric?

I used to think that the elderlies in New Zealand are alright, unti 1 week ago, when I encountered a not-so-alright elderly in a supermarket.

I know that it was my fault I hadn't been carrying the mirror properly, thus hitting her in the knee by accident. I understand that it may have been very painful for her, given her age. I DID say that I am sorry.

Unfortunately, that wasn't good enough for the old lady, who started cursing (bloody hell she had said) and giving me the stink-eye. And apparently, one stink-eye wasn't good enough either, because as she walked off, she turned around to give me another stink-eye. And then walked off again, only to turn around yet another time to give me one last stink-eye.

Alright. So maybe I should've been more apologetic. Maybe, instead of apologising just once, I should've apologised over and over again, until she's disappeared from my sight. Still, I can't help but feel that she's being meaner to me because I'm Asian.

Anyway, you'd think that one encounter would be enough to last me a lifetime. But no. Just today, I had the privilege of coming across yet another not-so-alright elderly at another supermarket. I am THIS close to vowing never to step into a supermarket again.

This time, I didn't bump into any part of the old lady's body. I did, however, unintentionally get in her way as she was about to come out of the supermarket with her trolley. I was trying to get back in to put my trolley back, and the moment I saw her coming I immediately tried to move out of the way, but it was a bit hard, given that there were plenty of people around us, trying to get in or out.

The next thing I know, she bellowed, "Excuse me! Let the old lady through!" And proceeded to push her way through, while I barely managed to move my trolley out of her way so as to avoid a head-on collision. I am pretty sure that I wasn't the only one with the what-is-wrong-with-you-lady expression on my face, because I caught another lady (older than I am, but younger than the old lady) having the same expression on her face. And this one also gave me the feeling that she's being meaner to me because I'm Asian.

I hope, for their own sake, that they'd lighten up a little, and soon, because otherwise, they'd end up all alone at the very end.
